A work order authorises a specific job and tells the crew what to do, where and with what. This generator walks you through client details, job details and resources, then produces a numbered PDF work order you can send to the client for approval or hand to the crew.
A unique work order number, the client and job site, a clear description of the work, start and target completion dates, who is assigned, the materials needed, estimated labor hours, and payment terms. For maintenance work, add the asset or location and the reported problem.
Have the client sign or approve the work order before work starts when the job is chargeable. The signed order is your authority to do the work and the basis for the invoice.
A work order authorises work. A purchase order is the buyer's authorisation to buy goods or services from a supplier. A change order modifies the scope or price of work already agreed. Many jobs use all three; our free generators cover each.
The generator here produces a PDF. For a reusable spreadsheet work order you can fill in over and over, see the work order template below.
Usually the client or property manager approving the work, and the person who completes it. Signatures on completion confirm the work was done.
These templates do the same job as an editable document you can fill in again and again.
