Minutes = lawn sq ft ÷ speed × 60 + trim + drive. Price per cut = minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate, never below the minimum.

Your numbers stay on this device. The page link keeps your inputs, so a bookmark or shared link reopens these results.

Enter the lawn area, how many square feet you mow in an hour with your mower, your trimming and blowing time, the drive time and the hourly rate your business needs. The calculator gives a price per cut, applies your minimum charge and shows the monthly total. Measure your own speed on a few lawns; nothing is stored or sent.

Pricing a cut by time

Minutes on site = lawn sq ft ÷ your mowing speed (sq ft per hour) × 60 + trimming, edging and blowing minutes. Add the drive time to the next stop, multiply by your hourly rate, and never go below your minimum charge.

A 9,000 sq ft lawn at 18,000 sq ft per hour takes 30 minutes to mow. With 10 minutes of trimming and blowing and 5 minutes of drive time it is 45 minutes, so at $60 an hour the cut is $45. Weekly service at 4 cuts a month is $180.

Prices by lawn size

With the same speed, $60 an hour, 15 minutes of trimming and driving and a $40 minimum, small lawns all land on the minimum charge. That is the point of a minimum: a small lawn still costs you the drive, the unloading and the invoice.

Setting the numbers

Your hourly rate has to cover the mower, trimmer and trailer, fuel, insurance, your own pay and profit, not only the labor. The hourly rate calculator works it out from your costs and the hours you can actually bill.

  • Time yourself on a few lawns of known size to get your real sq ft per hour; slopes, obstacles and bagging all slow it down.
  • Quote the first cut of an overgrown lawn separately: it can take twice as long.
  • Group stops by neighborhood so drive time between lawns stays short.
  • Send a written quote with the frequency, what is included (trim, edge, blow) and the price per cut before you start.

Keep the numbers in a spreadsheet

Frequently asked questions

How much should I charge to mow a lawn?

Price by time: mowing minutes from the lawn size and your speed, plus trimming and drive time, times your hourly rate, with a minimum charge. A 9,000 sq ft lawn at 18,000 sq ft/hour, 15 extra minutes and $60/hour is $45 a cut.

How do I calculate mowing time from square feet?

Divide the lawn area by the square feet you mow per hour and multiply by 60. 9,000 ÷ 18,000 × 60 = 30 minutes.

Should I charge a minimum for small lawns?

Yes. Drive time, unloading and billing cost the same on a small lawn, so a minimum charge keeps small stops profitable.

How do I price weekly versus biweekly mowing?

Multiply the price per cut by cuts per month. Many crews charge a little more per cut for biweekly service because the grass is longer and the cut takes more time.

Can I send the quote from my phone?

Yes. Instant Quote Maker builds the lawn care quote on your phone, sends it as a PDF and turns it into an invoice when the work is done.
